STEVE KELLY
Past President of Eagles Fly For Leukemia and C.E.O. of ELAP Services
STEVE KELLY, who was for 15 years the President of the Eagles Fly for Leukemia (EFL) shared the remarkable medical advances that have come about with the help of the Eagles Fly for Leukemia organization who have provided invaluable support to researchers in local Philadelphia institutions like the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). The Eagles’ involvement with this effort began when one of the Eagles’ players Fred Hill needed help with the medical care of his daughter, Kim, who had developed Childhood Leukemia. Out of Fred Hill’s efforts, the EFL was born. Steve Kelly told us how his group, for example, found $30,000 to buy lab mice for Dr. Grupp whose research has led to remarkable breakthroughs in gene therapy. When Kim Hill sought medical care in the 1970s, her chances of survival were 10% or less; today, a child’s survival chances are in the 90-95% range…what a remarkable medical achievement!
