Ronald McDonald House
SUSAN CAMPBELL, the C.E.O. of the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House reminded us how ideas can be shared and how one man can “change the world”…this she credited Jimmy Murray with doing.
Ms. Campbell started with the nonprofit organization in 2001 as a volunteer. She has served as executive director of the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House for 10 years.
The organization supports families of seriously ill children by providing a temporary residence to families in homelike environments. The first Ronald McDonald House opened at 4032 Spruce St. with room for seven families. It later relocated to larger space at 3925 Chestnut St. to accommodate more families.
“Throughout her tenure, Susan has led Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House through the successful implementation of vital new programs and has found creative solutions to meet fundraising challenges,” said Board President Peter Degnan. “As [the organization] moves to more than double its capacity, our executive committee unanimously agreed that her title should reflect the ever-growing scope of her position.”
The organization’s flagship house on Chestnut Street in University City is undergoing a major expansion, increasing its number of available rooms from 45 to 127, which will enable the House to grow from serving approximately 800 families each year, to an estimated 1,900 families, increasing the available room nights from 16,000 to more than 40,000 per year. Audrey Evans’ and Jimmy Murray’s shared dream of that first House REALLY CHANGED THE WORLD. There are now more than 525,000 volunteers, worldwide.
